Abstract Celebrity Series

Paintings depicting celebrities are presented in an abstract style representing computer based graphics. Recognizing these familiar faces becomes a struggle as the viewers have to try to decipher who they are looking at using the manipulated visual stimuli that they are presented with. Painted in monochromatic colors, Joe emphasizes their eyes and mouths by using complementary colors. This gives the otherwise static paintings a sense of vibrancy and movement. It also allows for the celebrities to be stripped of emotion and expression.
